As human beings we are slow to reach out a helping hand until a massive disaster engulfs us. For a short while "ME" is washed away. Human differences are swept aside. Just for now the world becomes one community. We are drowned in a tide of emotion.
…A ritual of extraordinary behaviour ….
Once more, Ellis and Bheki have drawn a circle. Everyone is invited to this ritual. Can "ME" be swallowed up in "US".
Ellis Pearson and Bheki Mkhwane are something of an institution on the lawns in Grahamstown, bringing their unique style of theatre and universal messages to the crowds who gather daily to watch them.
From a very early age Ellis has devoted himself to a very wide range of pursuits including painting, creating music, inventing contraptions, performing as a magician and creating theatre - "a post-modern renaissance man". (Weekly Mail & Guardian). All of Ellis' projects show his deep South African roots and his love for his home and people.
Bheki Mkhwane grew up in KwaMashu Township. Poor, street-wise and a formidable football player, he was inspired by the legendary Gibson Kente to become an actor. From street-wise to worldly-wise, Bheki's combination of Zulu chic and urban sass means that he is not only a role model for many young people, but is shortly to enter the race for future president of South Africa!
